Women's Soccer Travels to Wittenberg on Saturday Morning

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College women's soccer team will travel to Springfield, Ohio to play Wittenberg University at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

The Teams: Wilmington and Wittenberg. The Fightin' Quakers are 3-2-0, continuing their three game winning streak with a 1-0 victory over Earlham on Wednesday. The Tigers are 2-3-1 after a 2-1 loss to Capital University on Sunday. 

The Coaches: Steve Spirk enters his 28th season as Wilmington's head women's soccer coach. Spirk, a 1982 alumnus, has led the Quakers to six NCAA Division III Tournaments, eight conference championships and over 300 victories during his tenure. A member of the Wilmington Athletics Hall of Fame, Spirk was a four-time All-American and holds several of the College's men's soccer records. Katie Robinson is in her third season as head women's soccer coach for the Tigers. She took the team to an NCAC tournament championship in her first season in 2017 to earn a spot in the NCAA tournament. 

The Players: Freshman Taylor Huffman earned Ohio Athletic Conference offensive player of the week honors for games played Sept. 8-15. Huffman has recorded four goals and three assists for the Quakers. Maddie Scott has also scored four goals and dished out one assist. Senior Madison Wiedeman has scored twice including a game winning volley against Earlham. Quaker goalkeeper Lauren Galloway has recorded 19 saves and one solo shutout. Freshman Brooke Peters has scored two goals for the Tigers and taken nine shots on goal. Senior Kelly Corbin has started every game in goal for Wittenberg and has made 30 saves. 

Series History: Wilmington is 13-11-5 against Wittenberg since 1986,the Quakers won the last meeting 2-1 at Williams Stadium in 2018.
