Women's Soccer Shuts Out Transylvania to Win 2-0

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College women's soccer team returned to form on Wednesday evening, defeating Transylvania University 2-0.
 
The Fightin' Quakers now have a record of 4-2-1 while the Pioneers drop to 1-5-1.
 
The first legitimate chance on goal came from the Quakers in the 19th minute. Freshman Taylor Huffman dribbled down the right sideline and took a shot that was deflected for a corner kick. The Quakers then got two header opportunities on the cross but the shot was high. Wilmington took the lead in the 40th minute and never looked back. Elizabeth Matthews scored a relatively uncontested goal thanks to a cross from Carlie Brooks.
 
Another great opportunity came in the 57th minute from a corner kick by Tiffany Hayes, the cross was intercepted by a Pioneer defender, but landed back to Hayes who took a shot going high of the goal. The game was sealed by Maddie Scott in the 77th minute, getting an assist from Abby Spirk
 
Wilmington led the way in shots 17-9 and in corner kicks 5-1.
 
Lauren Galloway made seven saves on her way to a shutout for the Quakers. Morgan Patton had two saves in the loss for the Pioneers. 

The Quakers will be back in action at Williams Stadium at 2 p.m. on Saturday taking on Defiance College.
