Taylor Huffman's Goal Gives Women's Soccer 1-0 Win Over Marietta

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College women's soccer team defeated Marietta College on Saturday evening 1-0 with a seventh minute goal from Taylor Huffman in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) competition.

The Fightin' Quakers are now 8-4-1, 3-2-0 OAC and the Pioneers fall to 7-7-0, 1-4-0 OAC.

The goal came on just the second shot of the game as Huffman managed to beat Pioneers goalkeeper Katie Conkle from close range with an assist from Riley Allison. Marietta played through its defense all game, always looking to build the ball out and attack only when a good opportunity presented itself. This meant that the ball spent most of the time in the Marietta defensive third of the field, and the Quakers took advantage of this game plan and put pressure on the Pioneers' defense. Maddie Scott almost increased the Quaker lead in the 61st minute when she got loose on a breakaway and beat Conkle with a shot, but was stopped by the post. Wilmington closely outshot Marietta 8-7 with four shots on goal, the Quakers also led corner kicks 3-2.

Lauren Galloway recorded three saves in her victory for the Quakers, Conkle also recorded three saves in her loss.

Wilmington will be back in Williams Stadium on Wednesday at 7 p.m. to host Otterbein College for more OAC action.
