WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College women's soccer team will host Capita University for Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) action on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
The Teams: Wilmington and Capital, the Fightin' Quakers are 8-6-1, 3-4-0 OAC after a 1-0 loss to Baldwin Wallace on Saturday. The Crusaders are 12-5-0, 5-2-0 OAC after losing to Ohio Northern 2-0.
The Coaches: Steve Spirk enters his 28th season as Wilmington's head women's soccer coach. Spirk, a 1982 alumnus, has led the Quakers to six NCAA Division III Tournaments, eight conference championships and over 300 victories during his tenure. A member of the Wilmington Athletics Hall of Fame, Spirk was a four-time All-American and holds several of the College's men's soccer records. Matt Ogden is in his fifth season as head women's soccer coach at Capital. He led the team to fourth place in the OAC standings last year with a win in the first found of the conference tournament.
The Players: Taylor Huffman leads the Quakers offensive efforts with six goals and three assists. Maddie Scott is Wilmington's other big scorer with five goals, playing the opposite side of the field as Huffman. Lauren Galloway has started every game for Wilmington, recording 86 saves and four shutouts. Jordan Fike has scored 10 goals for the Crusaders, she has also dished out 10 assists to lead the team in both categories. Kelly Bachmann has started 14 games in goal for Capital with 27 saves and 14 goals allowed.
Series History: Wilmington is 11-12-3 against Capital since 1991, the Crusaders have won the last five meetings and 10 of the last 11 match-ups.
Conference Standings: The Quakers currently hold sole possession of fifth place in the conference standings as they attempt to make the six team postseason. Victory in either of the next two games would put Wilmington into the OAC tournament.
Senior Night: Wednesday night's contest will be the last regular season home game in the careers of Madison Weideman, Amy Johnson, Riley Allison, Arianna Johnson and Haley Burge. A brief ceremony will be held prior to kickoff to celebrate.
