NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Wilmington College women's soccer team held a significant 17-8 shots edge, but Muskingum University capitalized on its chances in a 3-1 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) contest on Wednesday evening.

The win was the Fighting Muskies' first over the Fightin' Quakers in 25 games in a series dating back to 1991. The loss also snaps a seven-game unbeaten streak for Wilmington.

Muskingum scored two goals on its first five shots. Mary Double took a pass from Abigail Wagner to opened the scoring in the 22nd minute. Fittingly, Double doubled her scoring total later in the half scoring unassisted in the 37th minute. Wilmington did hold a 10-5 edge in shots the first 45 minutes, but it was the hosts who took a 2-0 lead into halftime.

The Quakers came out firing in the second half taking the first six shots of the period. After neither found the back of the net, the Muskies' first shot of the period did as Double found Peyton Phillips for the 3-0 lead. Wilmington did beat Katie Bodenmiller once as Tiffany Hayes scored in the 76th minute, but Muskingum's goalkeeper picked up the victory saving the other nine shots on goal.

Lauren Galloway, the reigning OAC Defensive Player of the Week, allowed three goals on five shots. The freshman entered the game having surrendered just two goals in the previous eight games.

Maddie Scott and Payton Watson combined for nine shots including five on goal.

Wilmington (6-3-1, 1-1-0 OAC) gets a chance to rebound on Saturday when the University of Mount Union comes to campus for a 7 p.m. contest Saturday.
