WESTERVILLE, Ohio - The Wilmington College women's soccer team was eliminated from the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Tournament with a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to Otterbein University in double overtime on Tuesday evening.

The Fightin' Quakers entered the contest as underdogs, but a goal in the 21st minute from Mackenzie Weaver from a Riley Allison corner kick gave Wilmington momentum. The Quakers almost managed to score again in the 25th minute, but Maddie Scott's shot hit the crossbar. The Cardinals found the back of the net in the 51st minute after numerous scoring chances, but the goal was called back for an offside call.

A goal did come for Otterbein in the 81st minute, however, when Bella Shivley scored on a penalty kick called on the Quaker defense for handling. With time winding dow,n Wilmington mounted its last goal scoring chance of regulation in the 88th minute. Taylor Huffman beat two defenders with her speed to give the Quakers a 3-on-1 attack. Huffman passed to Scott who was left open, but Scott's shot was collected by the Erin Gordon in goal for the Cardinals.

The first overtime period was played to completion without a goal, but Otterbein scored in the 102nd minute from Annie Howell assisted by Delaney Earl.

Lauren Galloway played goalkeeper for Wilmington with 10 saves while Gordon recorded nine saves for the Cardinals.

"I'm proud of the effortof the team today. We played hard and with intensity and almost got it done," Head Coach Steve Spirk said about the loss. "To lose in overtime is tough, but I'm proud of this group of players."

Wilmington was outshot 32-14, but was more efficient with its shots as 10 were on goal compared to a dozen for Otterbein.

Wilmington finishes its 2019 season 9-8-1. Otterbein will play at Capital in the OAC Tournament semifinals on Thursday.
