JJ Durr, Simon Heys Qualify for Indoor National Championships

LIST OF PARTICIPANTS FOR NCAA DIVISION III INDOOR TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS

WILMINGTON, Ohio - JJ Durr and Simon Heys will represent the Wilmington College men's track & field team at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships next weekend.

The field for the championships, which will take place at the CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama, on March 10-11, was released by the NCAA on Sunday. Durr, a sophomore from West Lafayette, is seeded 14th in the weight throw while Heys, a senior from Wilmington, is seeded 10th in the 5,000-meter run and 17th in the 3,000-meter run. The top 20 placers in each event qualified.

Durr, who won the OAC championship in the weight throw, heaved a season-best mark of 61' 3.5" at the Polar Bear Final Qualifier last weekend. That throw, which moved Durr up to 14th, was less than an inch off Hank Benedict's school record from 2001. Durr will be making his second appearance at the national meet in the event having finished 11th (58' 4.5") in 2022.

Heys, who won the OAC title in the 5,000-meter run and garnered All-OAC honors in the 3,000-meter run, is the school record holder in both events. The Wilmington High School alumnus narrowly missed qualification for the indoor championships a season ago.

As a team, Wilmington finished fifth at the OAC Indoor Championships.
