Men's Track & Field Opens Indoor Season at Tiger Open

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wilmington College men's track & field team opened its indoor season at the Tiger Open hosted at Wittenberg University's Steemer Center on Saturday.

The season-opening event for the indoor squad did not feature team scores. 

In field events, the Quakers' throws squad had a stellar start to the indoor season as there were seven individuals that earned top-eight finishes. In the weight throw, JJ Durr won the event with a heave of 54' 10.25" while teammates Justin Shuga (53' 10.5") and Nathan Borgan (53' 9.25") finished right behind in second and third respectively. Nate Marcum ensured half of the top eight would be wearing the Green & White as the the senior placed sixth with a throw of 52' 2.75". Wilmington also had four individuals finish in the top eight in the shot put. Mike Soltis claimed victory with a heave of 48' 10.25" with Shuga (46' 1.25"), Durr (43' 10") and Brett Brooks (43' 2.50") finished fourth, sixth and eighth respectively.

Brayden Jones and D'Shawn McKinney rounded out WC's top-eight finishes in field events. Jones took third in the pole vault with a mark of 11' 8.5" while McKinney's leap of 40' 11" was good for fifth place. 

In track events, Simon Heys and Noah Tobin, who last ran at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships, both competed in the 5,000-meter run. Heys finished runner-up with a time of 14:34.03 while Tobin finished less than a second behind to place third (14:34.62) with a personal best time.
