2023 Male Clyde Lamb Award Winner - Men's Cross Country and Track & Field Alumnus George Rickett

WILMINGTON, Ohio - George Rickett, a December 2022 Wilmington College graduate and four-year member of both the cross country and track & field teams, is the College's male Clyde Lamb Award winner for the 2022-23 academic year.

Rickett hails from Bidwell, Ohio, and is an alumnus of River Valley High School. As a cross country runner, few runners have improved more than Rickett during his time as a Quaker. He worked his way up to becoming a stalwart during Wilmington's 2022 season, one of the best in program history. After finishing 27th at the 2021 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Championships, which were held on the WC campus, Rickett improved upon that performance with an All-OAC eighth-place finish (26:44) at the 2022 OAC Championships. The placement aided the Quakers to a third-place finish in the event, the highest in program history.

Two weeks later, Rickett garnered All-Region honors by crossing the finish line in 15th place and with a time of 24:43.3 at the Great Lakes Regional meet hosted by Hope College in Holland, Michigan. Though the Quakers narrowly missed qualifying for nationals as a team, Rickett was 1-of-3 individuals to run at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships. It was there he concluded his cross country career as only the third Wilmington male to run at nationals in the NCAA era (1991-present).

In track & field, he competed in distance events and holds the College's record for the 3,000-meter steeplchase with a time of 9:26.92, set on May 5, 2022. Rickett has also been involved on campus as the Disc Golf Club President for the last two years. He recently completed a semester as a graduate assistant coach with the swimming program and ran his first marathon, which took place at night!

An exercise science major, Rickett graduated in December of 2022 with a degree in exercise science and a minor in coaching. An two-time Academic All-American (USTFCCCA), he carried a 3.80 grade point average and was named Academic All-OAC all years eligible. Additionally, Rickett appeared on the WC Academic Dean's List all eight semesters and was recognized as a Scholar Leader by the Wilmington Kiwanis Club.

Congratulations, George – Wilmington College's Male Clyde Lamb Award winner for the 2022-23 academic year!
