Women's Basketball Opens Second Half of OAC Play at Mount Union Saturday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College women's basketball kicks off round two of Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play with a trip to the University of Mount Union on Saturday. Tip-off from the MAAC is slated for 3 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Mount Union. The Quakers enter the game 9-7 overall and 5-4 in OAC play after dispatching Muskingum University 88-69 on Wednesday. The Purple Raiders are also 9-7 on the season, but sit at 3-6 in conference competition after falling 80-72 at Marietta College on Wednesday.

The Coaches: Jerry Scheve is in his 30th season as head coach of the Wilmington women's basketball program. Scheve, who guided the Quakers to the NCAA Division III National Championship in 2004, has amassed over 500 career victories. Suzy Venet, a former All-American at Mount Union, is in her 15th season as head coach at her alma mater. She has guided the Purple Raiders to four NCAA Division III Tournament appearances.

The Players: Wilmington features three players – McKayla Binkley, Kennedy Lewis and Hannah Binkley – that score in double figures including McKayla Binkley's team-best 17.1 points per game. The junior also leads the Quakers in rebounding at 7.1 per game and steals at 2.2 per contest. Kennedy Lewis, who scores 11.5 points per game, combines with Zahrya Bailey to dish out 5.8 assists per game. Kelly Noll scores 9.3 points and grabs 6.5 boards per contest. Two Purple Raiders – Tori Rappach and Elena Rauhe, who scored 25 points at Marietta, average 14.0 points per game. Sarah Hessell hauls in 8.3 rebounds per contest.

Tale of the Tape: Points per game – Wilmington 81.9, Mount Union 73.1; opponents' points per game – Wilmington 74.6, Mount Union 70.2; field goal percentage – Wilmington 42.5, Mount Union 39.1; three-point percentage – Wilmington 32.3, Mount Union 34.9; free throw percentage – Wilmington 71.5, Mount Union 68.0; rebounds per game – Wilmington 40.4, Mount Union 38.0; assist-to-turnover ratio – Wilmington 0.87, Mount Union 0.95.

Tops in the OAC: McKayla Binkley leads the OAC in scoring at 17.1 points per game.

Scoring Offense: The Quakers are ninth in NCAA Division III in scoring offense at 81.5 points per game.

Recent History: Wilmington is 30-15 against Mount Union since joining the OAC prior to the 2000-01 season. The Quakers won the first meeting this season – a 102-93 shootout at Hermann Court on Dec. 14, 2019. More information on the series history can be found by visiting the link above.
