Women's Basketball Heads to Ohio Northern on Wednesday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College women's basketball heads to Ohio Northern University (ONU) for a 7 p.m. Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) on Wednesday evening.

The Teams: Wilmington and Ohio Northern. The Fightin' Quakers are 9-8 overall and an even 5-5 in conference play after falling 79-77 at the University of Mount Union on Saturday. The Polar Bears are 13-4 and 7-3 in OAC competition after a 55-52 triumph over Capital University on Saturday.

The Coaches: Jerry Scheve is in his 30th season as head coach of the Wilmington women's basketball program. Scheve, who guided the Quakers to the NCAA Division III National Championship in 2004, has amassed over 500 career victories. Michele Durand has been Ohio Northern's coach for 19 seasons. She's announced this is her final year at the helm of the Polar Bears.

The Players: McKayla Binkley continues to lead Wilmington in scoring (18.1 points per game) and rebounding (7.2 rebounds per contest). Kennedy Lewis and Hannah Binkley also score in double figures while Kelly Noll is second on the squad in rebounding at 6.6 rebounds per contest. Lewis combines with Zahrya Bailey to dish out nearly six assists per contest. Emily Mescher leads ONU in scoring (10.5 points per game) and rebounding (5.4 rebounds per contest). Abby Weeks is second in scoring at 9.1 points per game.

Tale of the Tape: Points per game – Wilmington 81.6, ONU 60.8; opponents' points per game – Wilmington 74.9, ONU 53.2; field goal percentage – Wilmington 42.5, ONU 39.2; three-point percentage – Wilmington 32.9 ONU 28.8; free throw percentage – Wilmington 71.2, ONU 65.8; rebounds per game – Wilmington 41.7, ONU 38.5; assist-to-turnover ratio – Wilmington 0.86, ONU 0.89.

Tops in the OAC: McKayla Binkley leads the OAC in scoring at 18.1 points per game.

Scoring Offense: The Quakers are fifth in NCAA Division III in scoring offense at 81.9 points per game.

Recent History: Wilmington is 21-27 against ONU since joining NCAA Division III, but it amidst a 14-game losing streak.  The Polar Bears defeated the Quakers 72-64 at Hermann Court on Dec. 11, 2019. More information on the series history can be found by visiting the link above.
