WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College women's basketball team outscored Muskingum University 27-11 in the final quarter en route to an 88-69 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) win at Hermann Court on Wednesday evening.
The Quakers led the entire first quarter and capped the period on a McKayla Binkley layup off a Hannah Binkley steal and pass to lead 24-18 after the first 10 minutes. An old-fashioned, three-point play from Brooke Davis to open the second quarter giving the hosts a 27-18 lead. The Fightin' Muskies scored the next six points to get within a basket, but the hosts maintained an advantage that sat at six points (44-38 at halftime).
Muskingum, which was attempting to end a 10-game losing skid to Wilmington, opened the third quarter on a 14-6 run that was capped by a three-point play from Camay Baylock with 3:36 to play. Facing a deficit for the first time, the Quakers regained a 61-58 lead after three quarters.
Wilmington's offense exploded in the fourth quarter, backed by three Kelly Noll triples in five possessions, as the hosts opened the final 10 minutes on a 19-6 run to put the game away
The Quakers finished 32-of-84 (38.1 percent) from the field compared to 27-of-78 (34.6 percent) for the Muskies. Wilmington also made three more triples and six more free throws. Muskingum won the battle of the boards 53-50, but committed 23 turnovers.
Wilmington utilized a balanced scoring attack as Noll led everyone with 16 points on 4-of-7 shooting from distance. McKayla Binkley added 15 points, eight rebounds, three assists and four steals while Michelle Lee added 10 points. Davis finished with a season-high 13 points and Kelis Jones tied her career high with 10 points.
A trio of Muskies – Baylock, Casey Smith and Emily Yeagar – finished in double figures.
The Quakers improve to 9-7 overall and conclude the first half of OAC play with a 5-4 record. Wilmington heads to the University of Mount Union on Saturday.
