WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College women's basketball team led No. 12 Baldwin Wallace University after one quarter, but the Yellow Jackets held the Quakers to 10 points in each of the next two quarters en route to an 85-61 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) win at Hermann Court on Saturday afternoon.
Hannah Fecht, who broke BW's single-game triples record earlier in the week, opened the game with a triple, but Wilmington battled back with free throws from Kennedy Lewis and Hannah Binkley along with a basket from Kelly Noll. The Yellow Jackets held a 7-5 edge until a 7-0 Quaker spurt that lasted 90 seconds and was capped by another Noll basket gave the hosts a 12-7 lead midway through the quarter.
Wilmington maintained that advantage, and even when it looked like BW would be within two after the first quarter, Lewis found Noll for a three-pointer at the buzzer. The Quakers, who led 24-19 after 10 minutes, wouldn't sustain its offense throughout the game as the eighth-highest scoring team in the country was held to just 10 points in both the second and third quarters.
Despite that, the Quakers found themselves down just five (34-30) at halftime, but a 12-2 run to open the third quarter put the game away.
BW shot 29-of-67 (43.3 percent) from the floor along with 10-of-26 (38.5 percent) from distance. Wilmington countered with a 26-of-58 (44.8 percent) performance from the field, but shot just 4-of-16 (25.0 percent) from beyond the three-point arc. The Yellow Jackets, who won the rebounding battle 38-34, made 17 free throws compared to just five for the Quakers.
Fecht led all scorers with 19 points including a 5-of-9 performance from distance. Riley Schill, Kara Marshall and Megan Hensel also scored in double figures.
Zahrya Bailey led Wilmington in scoring with 13 points off the bench to go along with two assists and three steals. McKayla Binkley and Lewis scored in double figures while Noll added nine points and a team-high six rebounds. Kelis Jones joined Bailey in dishing out three assists off the bench.
Wilmington (8-7, 4-4 OAC) hosts Muskingum University to close out the first half of conference play on Wednesday evening.
