WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College women's basketball team forced 34 turnovers in a season-opening 111-56 rout of Miami University-Middletown in game one of the 28th annual Damon's/Hampton Inn Tip-Off Classic on Friday evening.
The Fightin' Quakers started quickly, building a 20-plus point lead late in the first quarter. The hosts led 37-15 after 10 minutes of play, and would not trail the rest of the way.
Wilmington was dominant in nearly all statistical categories. Perhaps most impressive was forcing 34 turnovers that led to a 45-2 disparity in points off turnovers. The Quakers nearly doubled Miami-Hamilton in total shots, making 42-of-92 (45.7 percent) compared to 18-of-48 (37.5 percent) for the ThunderHawks. The hosts also held advantages in three-point field goals made (13-5) and rebounds (45-34).
The Quakers played their entire healthy roster with no one playing over 21 minutes. McKayla Binkley and Zahrya Bailey both had 17 points while Kennedy Lewis (14 points), Hannah Binkley (11 points) and Kelly Noll (10 points) also finished in double figures.
McKayla Binkley added six steals while a pair of Quakers off the bench - Ellen Nilback and Elise Carpenter - led the team in rebounding with nine and eight boards respectively.
Lily Campbell had 13 points for Miami-Middletown in defeat.
The win was the Quakers' first time crossing the 100-point plateau since defeating Marietta College 103-102 in double overtime on Jan. 25, 2014.
Wilmington will face Denison University tomorrow (Saturday) at 3 p.m. in the championship as the Bid Red defeated Anderson University 71-47.
