WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College women's basketball concludes the 2019 calendar year by competing in the Charles B. Zimmerman Memorial Classic hosted by Wittenberg University on Dec. 29-30.
The Schedule: Wilmington will face host Wittenberg at noon on Sunday, Dec. 29 while Westminster College (Missouri) takes on Stevenson (Maryland) at 2:15 p.m. A consolation final will be held at noon on Monday, Dec. 30 with the championship final scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
The Teams: Wilmington, Wittenberg, Westminster and Stevenson. The Quakers enter the game with a 5-3 record after dispatching the University of Mount Union 102-93 on Dec. 14. The host Tigers are 6-4 and on a three-game winning streak including a 72-57 win over Franklin College on Dec. 18. The Blue Jays are 3-5 after a narrow loss to nationally-ranked Washington University in St. Louis on Dec. 18 while the Mustangs are 2-6 and looking to snap a six-game losing streak.
The Coaches: Jerry Scheve is in his 30th season as head coach of the Wilmington women's basketball program. Scheve, who guided the Quakers to the NCAA Division III National Championship in 2004, has amassed over 500 career victories. Kelly Mahlum is in her fourth season as Wittenberg's head coach while Talisha Washington is in her first season as Westminster's head coach. Jackie Boswell is in her ninth season as Stevenson's head coach.
The Players: Wilmington features a balanced scoring attack as four players – McKayla Binkley, Hannah Binkley, Kennedy Lewis and Kelly Noll – all score in double figures. McKayla Binkley leads the team in scoring at 18.4 points per game while Noll grabs a team-best 6.8 rebounds per game. Zahrya Bailey and Lewis combine to dish out 7.3 assists per 40 minutes. Wittenberg also features several individuals – Kristie Kalis, Korynee Berner and Delaney Williams – who score in double figures while Mikalyn Callahan scores 11.3 points and leads the Blue Jays by grabbing 9.5 boards per contest. The Mustang duo of Brandi Hall and Olivia Coleman both score over 10 points per game.
