Volleyball Hosts Heidelberg to Open OAC Play Saturday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College volleyball team opens Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play on Saturday when Heidelberg University comes to Hermann Court for a 1 p.m. contest.

The Teams: Wilmington and Heidelberg. The Fightin' Quakers stand at 3-15 on the season having lost a straight-set, non-conference match at Bluffton University on Wednesday evening. The Student Princes are 16-3 overall and 1-0 in conference competition thanks to a straight-set win over Marietta College. The Berg most recently swept Kenyon College on Tuesday.

The Coaches: A new era of Wilmington volleyball has arrived as Andy Riesenberg, an experienced coach at the NCAA Division I, II, III and club levels, enters his first season leading the program in 2019. The Mount St. Joseph University alumnus has spent time at Southern Illinois University, Xavier University and Ohio University as an assistant coach as well as a stint as head coach at NCAA Division II institution Lake Erie College. Jason Miller is in his 20th season at Heidelberg's head volleyball coach. He's led the Student Princes to over 400 victories and eight NCAA Division III Tournament appearances during that stretch.

The Players: The Wilmington duo of Jillian Wesco and Taylor McCuistion continue to lead the Quakers offensively as both average nearly two kills per set and have accounted for nearly 54 percent of the team's kills. Both have also tallied over 175 digs per set in addition to their offensive numbers. Setter Summer Wilbur dishes out over six assists per set while libero Karley Schlensker is second in the OAC in digs per set at 5.37. A quartet of Student Princes – Taylor Valentine, Amy Feczer, Olivia Cristian and Maddie Szawranskyj – average over 2.5 kills per set. Anna McNabb and Julianna Pena combine for nearly 11 assists per set while Sarah Oney leads the back row with 5.24 digs per set.

Series History: Since the 2008 season, Wilmington is 0-11 against Heidelberg having one just one set during that stretch. More information can be viewed by visiting the link above.

AVCA Top 25 Poll: Though Heidelberg is not yet nationally ranked, the Student Princes are one of the top vote-getters in the most recent Top 25 Poll.
