Volleyball Beaten at Bluffton

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College volleyball team struggled to put down kills on Wednesday evening in a straight-set loss (25-17, 25-14, 25-19) at Bluffton University.

The Fightin' Quakers tallied 20 kills and 20 errors for an even .000 attack percentage while the Beavers finished with 42 kills and 16 errors for a .245 attack percentage.

Wilmington hit a negative attack percentage in the first two sets. Leading 2-0, Bluffton looked to put the match away in convincing fashion as the hosts won 18-of-22 points to begin the final set. The Quakers had other ideas, however, putting together a furious rally including long service runs from Connor Heck and Karley Schlensker. An ace from Schlensker got the visitors within two (21-19) and forced a timeout from Bluffton Head Coach Steve Yarnell. The Beavers responsed well, however, winning the next four points to seal the match.

Taylor McCuistion led Wilmington with six kills while Meghan Koch and Hannah Salyers, who also hit a .273 clip, both added five kills. Setter Summer Wilbur dished out 10 assists while Schlensker added 13 digs. Remi Bower, who entered the match averaging over three kills per set, added 14 kills and a .522 attack percentage. Kaylie Campbell and Carley Lester both hit over .600 while setter Maddie White dished out 28 assists.

Wilmington (3-15) opens Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play against Heidelberg University on Saturday. First serve from Hermann Court is slated for 1 p.m.
