Volleyball Heads to Bishop Invitational This Weekend

SERIES HISTORY - OHIO WESLEYAN | OTTERBEIN | DEFIANCE

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College volleyball team heads to the Bishop Invitational hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University this weekend.

The Schedule: Wilmington will face host Ohio Wesleyan at 5 p.m. on Friday followed by Kalamazoo College two hours later. The next day, the Fightin' Quakers will take on Otterbein University in a non-conference match scheduled for 11 a.m. followed by Defiance College at 1 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington, Ohio Wesleyan, Kalamazoo, Otterbein and Defiance. The Quakers are 1-6 on the season after a four-set loss to Earlham College on Tuesday. The Battling Bishops are also 1-6 after a four-set loss to Heidelberg University on Tuesday. Kalamazoo is 7-2, Otterbein is 8-1 and Defiance is 7-3.

The Coaches: A new era of Wilmington volleyball has arrived as Andy Riesenberg, an experienced coach at the NCAA Division I, II, III and club levels, enters his first season leading the program in 2019. The Mount St. Joseph University alumnus has spent time at Southern Illinois University, Xavier University and Ohio University as an assistant coach as well as a stint as head coach at NCAA Division II institution Lake Erie College. Kirsta Cobb is in her sixth season at Ohio Wesleyan while Cindy Cavanagh enters her first year at Kalamazoo. Monica Wright has been Otterbein's coach for 13 years while Brie Brenner is in her eighth season at Defiance.

The Players: Taylor McCuistion leads the Wilmington offense to the tune of 2.04 kills per set. Jillian Wesco, who is second on the team in digs, averages 1.96 kills per set. Summer Wilbur dishes out 5.22 assists per set while Karley Schlensker averages 5.39 digs per set. Ohio Wesleyan is led by a trio of Bishops – Jordan Brandt, Amelia Richardson and Eliza Richardson – all average over 2.25 kills per set. Grace Craft dishes out nearly nine assists per set for Kalamazoo while Carley Craycraft is close to averaging 10 assists per set for Otterbein. Delaney Monnin averages 3.11 kills per set for Defiance.

Series History: In the last decade, Wilmington has not played Kalamazoo and has the following record against its other three weekend opponents: 5-7 vs. Ohio Wesleyan, 0-11 vs. Otterbein and 0-1 against Defiance. More information on the series histories can be viewed by visiting the link above.
