Volleyball Opens Final Week of Regular Season at Capital Tuesday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College volleyball team opens the final week of the 2019 regular season with a road match at Capital University on Tuesday evening. First serve from the Capital Center is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Capital. The Fightin' Quakers enter the week with a 3-22 overall record and looking for their first Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) victory of the season after being dispatched by Baldwin Wallace University in straight sets on Saturday. The Crusaders are 9-19 on the season and also winless in OAC competition after a straight-set loss to Ohio Northern University on Saturday.

The Coaches: A new era of Wilmington volleyball has arrived as Andy Riesenberg, an experienced coach at the NCAA Division I, II, III and club levels, enters his first season leading the program in 2019. The Mount St. Joseph University alumnus has spent time at Southern Illinois University, Xavier University and Ohio University as an assistant coach as well as a stint as head coach at NCAA Division II institution Lake Erie College. Amanda Hubbard is in her third season as Capital's head volleyball coach.

The Players: Wilmington is led offensively by the duo of Jillian Wesco and Taylor McCuisition. The two seniors, and former high school teammates, have combined for 258 kills and over 54 percent of the team's kills on the season. Summer Wilbur dishes out 5.68 assists per set while Karley Schlensker is third in the OAC in digs per set at 5.11. A trio of Crusaders – Delanie Nahikian, Kirsten Jutte and Leighann Osborn – all average over two kills per set. Emily Cooper and Jenay Kocsis split the setting duties while Erin O'Connell leads the back row with 4.52 digs per set.

OAC Tournament Implications: Wilmington can sneak into its first OAC Tournament in program history with a pair of wins this week.

Series History: Since the 2008 season, Wilmington is 1-10 against Capital. The Quakers did, however, win the 2018 matchup 3-1, snapping a 59-match OAC losing streak. More information can be viewed by visiting the link above.
