Volleyball Hosts Earlham in Quaker Bowl Rivalry Game Tuesday

SERIES HISTORY

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College volleyball team plays at Williams Stadium for the first time in 2019 on Tuesday when Earlham College comes to town for a 7 p.m. contest.

The Teams: Wilmington and Earlham. The Fightin' Quakers are 1-5 on the season after notching their first win by defeating Central State University on Friday. The Hustlin' Quakers are 2-3 on the season including 1-2 against Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) schools.

The Coaches: A new era of Wilmington volleyball has arrived as Andy Riesenberg, an experienced coach at the NCAA Division I, II, III and club levels, enters his first season leading the program in 2019. The Mount St. Joseph University alumnus has spent time at Southern Illinois University, Xavier University and Ohio University as an assistant coach as well as a stint as head coach at NCAA Division II institution Lake Erie College. Lauren Horton, the NAIA's all-time assists leader in the rally-scoring era, enters her fifth year as Earlham's head coach. She guided Earlham to a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Tournament semifinal appearance in 2018.

The Players: Taylor McCuistion leads the Wilmington offense to the tune of 2.16 kills per set. A trio of Quakers – Jillian Wesco (.242 attack percentage), Mariella Szrom and Meghan Koch – all put down over one kill per set. Setter Summer Wilbur dishes out nearly five assists per set while libero Karley Schlensker averages 5.32 digs per set. Earlham features a four-headed attack – Sarah Dickman, Caroline Mulvihill, Abbey Zanatta and Julia Stewart – all average over two kills per set. Mulvihill leads the pack in attack percentage with a .232 clip. Setter Lauren Jackson dishes out over nine assists per set while defensive specialist Sydney Ameluxen averages 5.31 digs per set.

Series History: Wilmington is 7-12 against Earlham since the 2008 season, but Earlham has won the last seven matchups.  More information on the series histories can be viewed by visiting the link above.

Quaker Bowl Rivalry: The athletics departments of Wilmington and Earlham have re-created the Quaker Bowl rivalry. Originally a traveling trophy for just football and men's basketball, the bowl will now be competed for across all sports the two schools compete in. Wilmington has won the last two years including a 6-4 win over the 2018-19 academic year.
