Volleyball Tripped Up on Day One of OWU Invitational

DELAWARE, Ohio - The Wilmington College volleyball team fell short in two straight-set matches on day one of the Ohio Welseyan University (OWU) Invitational on Friday. The Fightin' Quakers fell victim to the host Battling Bishops 25-14, 25-14, 25-14 and to Kalamazoo College 25-21, 25-21, 25-18.

In the loss to OWU, the hosts hit a .286 clip including 39 kills while Wilmington put down 17 balls for a .035 attack percentage. The combination of Jillian Wesco and Taylor McCuistion combined for 10 kills for the Quakers while setter Summer Wilbur dished out 15 assists. OWU's Rebecca Sutton put down 16 kills and a .667 attack percentage while Amelia Richardson added 10 kills. Molly Jewitt quarterbacked the Bishop offense to the tune of 29 assists.

In the loss to Kalamazoo, Wesco finished with 10 kills while Mariella Szrom, who hit a .545 clip in the match, put down six balls. Wilbur dished out 24 assists while Schlensker added a dozen digs. For the Hornets, Grace Kraft averaged a dozen assists per set wiht Madi Goodman and Sydney Dowdell both turned in double-digit kills performances.

Day two of the invitational kicks off at 11 a.m. tomorrow (Saturday).
