Volleyball Faces Road Test at Marietta Saturday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College volleyball team continues Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play with a trip to Marietta College on Saturday. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Marietta. The Fightin' Quakers are 3-19 overall and in search of their first conference win after getting swept by No. 11 Ohio Northern University at home on Tuesday. The Pioneers are 12-11 overall and 1-3 in OAC competition after dispatching Capital University in four sets on Tuesday. The Pioneers host Denison University on Thursday.

The Coaches: A new era of Wilmington volleyball has arrived as Andy Riesenberg, an experienced coach at the NCAA Division I, II, III and club levels, enters his first season leading the program in 2019. The Mount St. Joseph University alumnus has spent time at Southern Illinois University, Xavier University and Ohio University as an assistant coach as well as a stint as head coach at NCAA Division II institution Lake Erie College. Kristy Newman is in her second season as Marietta's head volleyball coach. The Pioneers went 11-20 under her leadership last season.

The Players: Wilmington offensively relies on the duo of Jillian Wesco (156 kills) and Taylor McCuistion (130 kills) as the two have combined for over 55 percent of the team's kills. Setter Summer Wilbur averaged 5.99 assists per set while Karley Schlensker averages 5.16 digs per set in the back row. Mariella Szrom is the squad's leading blocker with 36 on the year. The Marietta duo of Sam Ritenour and Alissa Ginther have combined for 280 Pioneer kills. Both average over 2.60 kilsl per set. Maddie Nader quarterbacks the Marietta offense to the tune of 8.64 assists per set.

OAC Statistics: Karley Schlensker is second in the OAC in digs per set at 5.16.
