Volleyball Heads to Mount Union Saturday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College volleyball team continues Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play with a road contest against the University of Mount Union on Saturday. First serve from the McPherson Academic and Athletic Center is scheduled for 1 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Mount Union. The Fightin' Quakers are 3-17 overall and 0-2 in conference competition after a three-set loss to No. 19 Muskingum University on Tuesday. The Purple Raiders are 16-4 overall and 1-0 in OAC competition after a four-set versus John Carroll University at home on Tuesday.

The Coaches: A new era of Wilmington volleyball has arrived as Andy Riesenberg, an experienced coach at the NCAA Division I, II, III and club levels, enters his first season leading the program in 2019. The Mount St. Joseph University alumnus has spent time at Southern Illinois University, Xavier University and Ohio University as an assistant coach as well as a stint as head coach at NCAA Division II institution Lake Erie College. Melissa Mahnke, a 2010 Mount Union alumna, is in her fifth season as the Purple Raiders' head coach.

The Players: Jillian Wesco lead the Wilmington attack with 144 kills for an average of 2.29 per set. Taylor McCuistion, who has nearly 200 digs along with Wesco, has over 120 kills as well. Mariella Szrom leads the squad in attack percentage at a .177 clip. Summer Wilbur averages over six assists per set while libero Karley Schlensker digs up over five balls per set. Mount Union is led offensively by two junior outside hitters in Madelin DiBease and Breanna Arnett. Both average over 2.40 kills per set. DiBease, who hits a .256 clip, also has 218 digs. Mollie Thomas and Katie May split the setting duties and combine to dish out 10 assists per set while Alyssa Kasaris averages over five digs per set.

OAC Statistics: Karley Schlensker is second in the OAC in digs per set at 5.25.
