WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College men's soccer team has revenge on its mind as the Fightin' Quakers face the Capital Comets for the first time since the Ohio Athletic Conference tournament last fall. Capital scored three goals in the final 12 minutes of the match to stun the Quakers in a come from behind victory.
The Teams: Wilmington and Capital. Wilmington (5-4-1, 0-1-0) has lost its previous two matches against top tier teams in the region despite playing at a high level. The Capital Comets (1-5-2, 0-0-1) have gone a month since their last victory. The Comets hope for a change of fortune as they have tied two of their last three matches.
The Coaches: Wilmington is led by first-year Head Coach Cory Bucur, who came to WC from Defiance College. Bucur led the Yellow Jackets to their best season in over a decade in the fall of 2021 as DC went 11-11-1, upset Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Tournament before coming a penalty shootout victory away from appearing in the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Tournament. Alan Yost enters his 10th season as head men's soccer coach and begins his 11th year, overall, at Capital University. Over the course of his nine seasons as head coach, the Purple and White have collected 47 all-conference honors, including 10 first-team selections.
The Players: The Quaker offense is supremely talented across multiple positions. An impressive 13 different Quakers have scored thus far. Elorm Dogbey leads the pack with six goals and two assists. Capital sophomore goal keeper Connor Sexton is the OAC defensive player of the week after recording 12 saves in a single game, a Capital single game record. Devon Hess is the leading goal scorer for the Comets with four on the season. Jack Francisco has dished three assists for Capital.
