WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College men's soccer team opens its 2022 campaign with a game against DePauw University on Thursday evening. Kickoff from Williams Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and DePauw. The Fightin' Quakers finished last season with a 13-3-3 overall record and qualified for the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Tournament for the second year in a row. There, WC fell to Capital University 4-3 at home in a quarterfinal round game. The Tigers finished the 2021 fall season 10-8-0 overall and 4-5-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC).

The Coaches: Wilmington is led by first-year Head Coach Cory Bucur, who came to WC from Defiance College. Bucur led the Yellow Jackets to their best season in over a decade in the fall of 2021 as DC went 11-11-1, upset Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Tournament before coming a penalty shootout victory away from appearing in the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Tournament. Brad Hauter, a 1987 DePauw alumnus, has been the head coach of the Tigers since the 2008 season. He has a career record of 139-53-34 in a dozen seasons.

The Players: Wilmington's top three scorers - Yusef Muqtadir, Elorm Dogbey and Jeffry Vasquez - all return for 2022 as all three tallied at least 15 points and combined for 22 of the team's 47 goals. Michael Owusu, Grant Murray and Casey Miller also bolster the WC midfield. Ben Weidner and Sam Thiel combined to score 11 goals and dish out nine assists for the Tigers a season ago.

Series History: Wilmington has played DePauw just once since becoming an NCAA Division III member in the early 1990s. The Quakers claimed a 5-3 victory at a neutral site on Sept. 26, 1992. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.
