Men's Soccer Clashes with OAC Leading Polar Bears Wednesday Night

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College men's soccer team travels north to Ada to face Ohio Northern in a match with significant Ohio Athletic Conference tournament implications.

The Teams: Wilmington and Ohio Northern. Wilmington enters Wednesdays match with a five game unbeaten streak most recently defeating Marietta 2-0. Ohio Northern sits atop the OAC after defeating John Carroll 2-1 last weekend. 

The Coaches: Wilmington is led by first-year Head Coach Cory Bucur, who came to WC from Defiance College. Bucur led the Yellow Jackets to their best season in over a decade in the fall of 2021 as DC went 11-11-1, upset Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Tournament before coming a penalty shootout victory away from appearing in the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Tournament. Chris Matejka is in his fourth season as the head men's soccer coach at Ohio Northern. He was named head coach of the Ohio Northern men's soccer team in December of 2019 after serving as the interim head coach for the 2019 season. He spent the previous six seasons as an assistant coach for his alma mater.

The Players: Elorm Dogbey added to his season goal total against Marietta giving him seven goals this season. Casey Miller has scored or assisted in five of the last seven games for the Quakers. The Ohio Northern offense has a trio of seniors who have scored four goals - Bryan Kern, Levi King and Aaron Shelton. Wilmington goalkeeper Thomas Grimes was the OAC Defensive Player of the Week this past week.

OAC Player of the Week: Michael Owusu was selected as this weeks Midstream Lighting OAC Defensive Player of the Week. 

Regional Rankings: Wilmington checks in at No. 8 in this week's United Soccer Coaches Region VII regional rankings
