SERIES HISTORY

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College men's soccer team continues its flurry of games to open the 2022 season with a Labor Day game at Wittenberg University on Monday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Wittenberg. The Fightin' Quakers enter the contest 1-1-0 on the year. After falling to DePauw University 3-1 in the season-opener on Thursday, WC rebounded to defeat Centre College 2-1 on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers are 0-1-0 on the year after dropping their season-opener 4-0 at Transylvania University on Sept. 1.

The Coaches: Wilmington is led by first-year Head Coach Cory Bucur, who came to WC from Defiance College. Bucur led the Yellow Jackets to their best season in over a decade in the fall of 2021 as DC went 11-11-1, upset Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Tournament before coming a penalty shootout victory away from appearing in the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Tournament. Dwight Burgress, who won nearly 200 games as Capital University's head men's soccer coach, has been Wittenberg's head coach since the 2016 season.

The Players: Three Quakers have scored goals this season - Casey Miller, Yusef Muqtadir and Michael Owusu - while Muqtadir leads the team in shots attempted with four. WC has also used two goalkeepers in net - Gabriel Swaisgood and Thomas Grimes - with the later picking up the win over Centre. A trio of Tigers - Mustapha Kinteh, Lukas Lindberg and Jack Pascoal - have all taken two shots for Wittenberg on the young season.

Series History: Wilmington is 18-9-3 against Wittenberg since the 1987 season and as won the last three meetings between the two teams. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.
