Volleyball Heads to Baldwin Wallace on Saturday in Search of Winning Streak

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College volleyball team continues Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play on Saturday with a trip to Berea and Baldwin Wallace University. First serve from Ursprung Gymnasium is scheduled for 1 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Baldwin Wallace (BW). The Fightin' Quakers enter the match with an 8-12 overall record and an even 1-1 OAC mark having played perhaps their most complete match of the season in a sweep of Capital University on Wednesday. The Yellow Jackets are 9-8 overall and 0-2 in conference matches having fallen in four sets to both Marietta College and The University of Mount Union. 

The Coaches: A new era of Wilmington volleyball has arrived Sophie Windover, a former collegiate player and assistant at Heidelberg University, enters her second season leading the program. She helped guide the Student Princes to a 21-8 record and an appearance in the AVCA Top 25 Poll. Kristina Fultz, a former student-athlete at Wittenberg University, is in her first season as BW's head coach. She spent the previous season as an assistant coach for Paco Labrador at the University States Naval Academy. 

The Players: Sofia Thomas averages 2.46 kills per set to lead the Wilmington offense while a trio of Quakers - Sydney Geibel, Sarah Brown and Joy Bebe - put down over 1.60 kills per set. Setter Andie Dolven dishes out 7.66 assists per set while libero Blake O'Brien leads the country in digs per set at 6.57. Middle block Bailey Pohlman has a team-high 48 total blocks and 16 solo. Sam Rueda puts down 3.40 kills per set for BW while Gabby Schlecht and Allison Weiner both average over two kills per set. Setter Olivia Zawadski dishes out 9.65 assists per game.

Tops in the National: Libero Blake O'Brien sits atop all of NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball in digs per set at 6.57. The junior is also second in the country in total digs with 453 having recently set the WC single-season record for digs in the rally scoring era.
