WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College volleyball team used a balanced offensive attack to sweep Defiance College 25-17, 25-22, 25-21 at Fred Raizk Arena on Friday evening.

Five Fightin' Quakers - Sofia Thomas, Bailey Pohlman, Joy Bebe, Sarah Brown and Sydney Geibel - finished with at least five kills. Thomas and Pohlman led the bunch with eight kills each while the freshman hit a .286 clip for the match.

"I thought the girls played out ready to play and protected home court tonight," Head Coach Sophie Windover said. "When you pass like we did tonight, that opens up your entire offense, and we have some depth at the net this year."

The Yellow Jackets were held to just three service aces in the match while WC had six. Setter Andie Dolven, who assisted on 29 of the squad's 39 kills, had four of those aces including three in a row that helped the hosts claim the second set.

The match was a defense one as both teams combined for 300 attack attempts and both hit under .150 for the match. The Yellow Jackets had the best offensive set in set two with a .200 attack percentage, but couldn't stay in system enough to win the set.

Defensively, libero Blake O'Brien tallied 27 digs for an average of nine per set while Geibel, Macee Hamilton and Kenadee Winters, who got her first start of the season, also had double-digit dig performances. Both Bebe and Pohlman had a solo block and three block assists.

Jamia Murray led Defiance in defeat with 10 skills on 35 swings with just two errors while libero Courtney Maxwell had 23 digs. Kendra Kline and Courtney Maxwell both had 13 assists.

Wilmington, which is off to its best start to a season in the last decade at 6-11, hosts Anderson University (Indiana) on Wednesday.
