Volleyball Heads to Kentucky For Tri-Match at Midway

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College volleyball team heads to Midway University for a tri-match on Tuesday. The Fightin' Quakers will face Asbury University at 5 p.m. and the host Eagles immediately afterward at 7 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington, Asbury and Midway. The Quakers are in search of their first victory of the season after four defeats at the Charlie Wrublewski Invitational at Mount St. Joseph University oevr the weekend. Asbury is 1-0 after defeating Kentucky State University in straight sets to open the season while Midway hasn't played a match yet this season.

The Coaches: A new era of Wilmington volleyball has arrived Sophie Windover, a former collegiate player and assistant at Heidelberg University, enters her second season leading the program. She helped guide the Student Princes to a 21-8 record and an appearance in the AVCA Top 25 Poll. Tiffany Horton is in her first season as Asbury's head coach while Jonea Rima is in her third seaosn as Midway's head coach. 

The Players: Two Quakers - Sofia Thomas and Lili Green - average over two kills per set to lead the Wilmington offense. Blake O'Brien has dug up 72 attack attempts for an average of 5.14 digs per set while setting Andie Dolven, who averages five assists per set, has a team-best six service aces. Asbury has three individuals - Emily Janszen, Erin Sexauer and Emma Ingalls - who all put down over 2.50 kills per set while the Midway duo of Aubry Koester and Brooke Trompler will look to add upon a combined 5.32 kills per set a season ago.

Series History: Wilmington fell to Midway, which finished the 2021 fall season 23-5, in straight sets last season.
