WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College volleyball team returns home on Wednesday to host Defiance College for a 7 p.m. match at Fred Raizk Arena.
The Teams: Wilmington and Defiance. The Fightin' Quakers enter the match with a 5-11 overall record having most recently fallen to Blufffton University on Wednesday. The Yellow Jackets are 2-9 on the season, but are looking to establish a winning streak having most recerntly swept Olivet College on Wednesday.
The Coaches: A new era of Wilmington volleyball has arrived Sophie Windover, a former collegiate player and assistant at Heidelberg University, enters her second season leading the program. She helped guide the Student Princes to a 21-8 record and an appearance in the AVCA Top 25 Poll. Nick Umbdenstock is in his third season on the Defiance coaching staff including his first as head coach. Umbdenstock is a 2015 graduate of Miami University.
The Players: Sofia Thomas has been Wilmington's go-to offensive threat thus far this season as the junior averages 2.37 kills per set to lead the team. Sydney Geibel and Joy Bebe put dow over 1.50 kills per set while Bebe is joined by Bailey Pohlman to combine for 65 blocks on the season. Setter Andie Dolven, who recently crossed the 1,000-career set plateau, averages over seven assists per game while libero Blake O'Brien digs up six attack attempts per set. Two Yellow Jackets - Kaylynn Wellman and Jamia Murray - combine to tally over 3.5 kills per set while Hope Yost averages four digs per set.
