WILMINGTON, Ohio - Wilmington College Head Volleyball Coach Sophie Windover has resigned from her position to pursue other coaching opportunities.

"Sophie did a great job getting this program back on its feet," Senior Director of Athletics Bill Wilson said. "Our next volleyball coach will have a solid foundation to build upon thanks to Sophie's efforts."

In two years as head coach, Windover changed the trajectory of the Quaker volleyball program. She led WC to a 9-19 record last fall including a 2-7 mark in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) games to conclude one of the program's best seasons in the last decade. Conference wins included a sweep of Capital University on Senior Night as well as a 3-1 win at Heidelberg University in the season finale. The triumph marked WC's first victory over Heidelberg in program history. 

Windover, who came to Wilmington from fellow OAC member Heidelberg University, mentored libero Blake O'Brien to Second Team All-OAC honors in the fall of 2022, marking the first Quaker to earn All-OAC honors in program history. She led the league in digs and digs per set and ended the season top 20 in NCAA Division III in both categories. Additionally, a dozen Quakers have earned Academic All-OAC recognition during Windover's tenure.

"I will forever be grateful to this program and the College for allowing me to lead these young ladies and begin to build the foundation for a great program," said Windover. "I know they have the right mindset and tools to have a strong season this fall. I look forward to following their success on the court and as they move on to the next chapter of their lives!"

Alongside her duties as head volleyball coach, Windover oversaw the Wilmington Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), which hosted a successful WESPY's Ceremony last month.

A national search to find the College's next head volleyball coach will begin immediately.
