Volleyball Heads to Heidelberg on Saturday for Season Finale

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College volleyball team will take to the court once final time in 2022 on Saturday as the Fightin' Quakers face Heidelberg University on the road on Saturday. First serve is slated for 1 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Heidelberg. The Fightin' Quakers enter the matchup with an 8-19 overall record and a 1-7 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) mark after a straight-set loss at Muskingum University on Wednesday evening. The Student Princes are 8-17 on the season and 3-5 in conference matches after a four-set victory over Capital University on Wednesday.

The Coaches: A new era of Wilmington volleyball has arrived Sophie Windover, a former collegiate player and assistant at Heidelberg University, enters her second season leading the program. She helped guide the Student Princes to a 21-8 record and an appearance in the AVCA Top 25 Poll. Jason Miller, also an associate director of athletics, has been Heidelberg's volleyball coach for 23 seasons. 

The Players: Four Quakers - Sofia Thomas, Sydney Geibel, Joy Bebe and Sarah Brown - put down over 1.50 kills per set with Thomas leading the way at 2.39 kills per game. Setter Andie Dolven assists on 7.68 assists per set while libero Blake O'Brien tallies 6.18 digs per set. Bebe is joined by Bailey Pohlman to have at least 55 blocks on the season. Seven Student Princes average over 1.70 kills per set with Liana Petitti's 2.25 kills per set leading the team. Kelsey Custenborder and Julianna Pena run the Student Prince's 6-2 offensive attack and combine to average nine assists per set.

Digs Per Set Nationally: Libero Blake O'Brien is fourth in NCAA Division III in digs per set.

Coaching Connection: Sophie Windover served as Jason Miller's lead assistant at Heidelberg prior to coming to Wilmington.
