Volleyball Welcomes Marietta to Hermann Court for Friday Night Tilt

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College volleyball team continues Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play with a home match against Marietta College on Friday. First serve from Hermann Court is slated for 7 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Otterbein. The Fightin' Quakers enter the matchup with an 8-14 overall record and a 1-3 mark in conference matches after a straight-set defeat at the hands of No. 20 Otterbein University on Wednesday. The Pioneers are 15-5 and 3-1 in the OAC after a sweep of The University of Mount Union at Ban Johnson Arena on Wednesday. 

The Coaches: A new era of Wilmington volleyball has arrived Sophie Windover, a former collegiate player and assistant at Heidelberg University, enters her second season leading the program. She helped guide the Student Princes to a 21-8 record and an appearance in the AVCA Top 25 Poll. Kristy Newman, a 214 graduate of Maryville College (Tennessee), is in her fifth season as the Pioneers' head coach. Marietta is off the its best start under Newman this season. 

The Players: Sofia Thomas leads the Wilmington front row with 2.41 kills per set while a trio of other Quakers - Sydney GeibelSarah Brown, and Joy Bebe - put down over 1.50 kills per set. Setter Andie Dolven dishes out 7.55 assists per set while libero Blake O'Brien digs up 6.44 balls per set. Bailey Pohlman and Joy Bebe both have over 40 blocks on the season. Marietta is led by a trio of hitters - Maggie Fellers, Jillian Fellers and Mia Silva - all put down over 2.75 kills per set. Setter Emory Spitler assists on 10.44 kills per set while Keira Shannon tallies 4.20 digs per set.

Tops in the National: Libero Blake O'Brien sits atop all of NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball in digs per set at 6.44. The junior is also second in the country in total digs with 483 having recently set the WC single-season record for digs in the rally scoring era.
