WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College volleyball team continues Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play with a home match against Otterbein University on Wednesday. First serve from Fred Raizk Arena is slated for 7 p.m.
The Teams: Wilmington and Otterbein. The Fightin' Quakers enter the matchup with a 8-13 overall record including a 1-2 mark in conference matches after a straight-set defeat at Baldwin Wallace University on Saturday. The Cardinals are 14-5 overall and 2-1 in OAC play after a four-set defeat at home at the hands of Ohio Northern University over the weekend.
The Coaches: A new era of Wilmington volleyball has arrived Sophie Windover, a former collegiate player and assistant at Heidelberg University, enters her second season leading the program. She helped guide the Student Princes to a 21-8 record and an appearance in the AVCA Top 25 Poll. Monica Wright, a Hall of Famer at Wittenberg University as a player, is in her 16th season as Otterbein's head coach. She has led the Cardinals to a 323-167 record and five OAC titles.
The Players: Sofia Thomas leads the Wilmington front row with 2.40 kills per set while a trio of other Quakers - Sydney Geibel, Sarah Brown, and Joy Bebe - put down over 1.50 kills per set. More to follow.
Tops in the National: Libero Blake O'Brien sits atop all of NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball in digs per set at 6.57. The junior is also second in the country in total digs with 470 having recently set the WC single-season record for digs in the rally scoring era.
Top 25: Otterbein checked in at No. 16 of last week's American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top 25 Poll. This week's poll is scheduled to come out on Tuesday, Oct. 11.
