Men's Lacrosse Has Late Comeback Bid Fall Short at Earlham

RICHMOND, Indiana - The Wilmington College men's lacrosse team scored a flurry of goals late at Earlham College, but ultimately came up short a comeback attempt. Earlham won the Quaker Bowl Rivalry Game 9-3 on Wednesday evening.

Wilmington (0-2) played a strong first quarter holding Earlham scoreless for the first 13 minutes until a Robert Gift goal gave Earlham the 1-0 lead. The leading scorers for Earlham added to their season totals in the second quarter with Gift tallying his second of the day and Sam Sargent joined him with two goals of his own. Wilmington's Justen Shaw scored his third goal of the season just before the half cutting the lead to 4-1 in favor of Earlham.

The Wilmington defense couldn't stop Sargent to start the second half as he scored his third goal of the day and was credited with the assist on a Elijah Gamber goal. Garrett Murrell of Wilmington scored late in the third quarter to bring the Fightin' Quakers to within four. 

Austin Bondurant scored his first goal of the season to start the fourth quarter making the score 6-3 in favor of Earlham. Earlham would put an end to the comeback bid as it scored the final three goals of the match making the final score 9-3. 

Wilmington's goalkeeper, Cody Everly, had 10 saves on the evening. Austin Bondurant, Garrett Murrell and Justen Shaw all scored for Wilmington. Sam Sargent scored four goals and had three assists for Earlham. 

Up next, Wilmington will be off for a week before playing Anderson University at home on March 8.
