(WILMINGTON, Ohio) – The Wilmington College baseball team was in action at Tewksbury-Delaney Field Wednesday afternoon against the visiting Franklin College Grizzlies. The Quakers lost the game 13-2 in seven innings. Wilmington took an early lead against Franklin, but the Grizzlies scored five runs in the third inning and never looked back in their victory. Wilmington is back in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play Saturday afternoon at John Carroll.

After holding Franklin scoreless over the first two innings, Wilmington grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second frame. A JP Donelan walk and Carter Scheben single had runners at first and second with one out. A fielder's choice put Donelan at third with two outs. J.C. Calhoun came through with a base hit, placing a groundball in the hole between third base and shortstop, giving Franklin no chance of getting an out while scoring Donelan.

The Grizzlies struck for five runs in the top of the third inning for a 5-1 lead. The Quakers had runners at first and second with one out in the fourth, but an unlucky play ensued. Dylan Montgomery roped a ball right at the pitcher, who snagged it out of the air and caught the runner at second for a double play to end the inning.

Wilmington grabbed their final run in the bottom of the fifth. Jared Lammert sent a one out triple sailing over the right fielder's head before Evan Kelsey grounded out to second base to bring in Lammert. The Quakers had one more runner in scoring position in the final inning, but a groundout ended the game.
