Baseball Falls to Olivet Sunday Evening in Xenia

(XENIA, Ohio) – The Wilmington College baseball team lost their contest with The University of Olivet Comets Sunday night, 5-1 at the Athletes in Action Sports Complex in Xenia, Ohio. The game was originally scheduled to be played in Wilmington but was moved due to field conditions. Carter Scheben and Evan Kelsey had a pair of hits in the game for the Quakers.

The Quakers allowed three runs in the first inning to fall behind. Wilmington had runners at second and third in the bottom of the second inning with two outs but couldn't bring anyone home. They also had a runner in scoring position in the third inning.

Wilmington scored their lone run in the fourth inning on a passed ball, with Scheben coming in to score after doubling to begin the inning. The Comets scored two more runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 5-1 lead, which they would hold onto for the remainder of the game in their win.

Notables

  • Evan Kelsey and Carter Scheben both had two hits to lead Wilmington. Scheben scored a run for the Quakers.
  • Zach Shepherd struck out eight Comets over five innings in his start on the mound.
  • The Quakers had 11 strikeouts in the game.
