Quakers Finish Up Their Weekend With Loss at Piedmont

(DEMOREST, Ga.) – The Wilmington College baseball team fell in the final game of their Georgia trip this afternoon against the host of the round robin tournament, the Piedmont University Lions, 12-2. A pair of Quakers had two hits in the game as they dropped to 0-6 to begin the season. The Quakers are right back in action Tuesday evening at Berea College.

The Quakers had runners in scoring position in the second and third innings but couldn't bring anyone home. The top of the third started with an out before singles from Evan Kelsey and Dominic Depa put runners on the corners with just one away. The Quakers couldn't take the lead though and the Lions plated three runs in the bottom of the third for a 3-0 lead.

Wilmington punched back with one run in the fourth after a Jared Lammert single was followed up by a Carter Scheben double to cut it to 3-1. The Lions would follow with nine unanswered runs over the following two and a half innings.

The Quakers had a runner in scoring position in the fifth but couldn't score again until the ninth. Wilmington loaded the bases with no outs in the inning thanks to a pair of hit by pitches and a walk. Kelsey brought in a run on a fielder's choice, but no further damage was done.
