(WILMINGTON, Ohio) – The Wilmington College baseball team opened up Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play this afternoon at Tewksbury-Delaney field, taking on the Muskingum University Fighting Muskies in a doubleheader. They dropped both games on the day, losing game one 14-4 and game two 5-4. The Quakers held a 4-3 advantage heading into the top of the ninth inning in game two but couldn't hold onto the lead. The team falls to 2-14 overall this season and 0-2 in OAC play as they return to action at Wittenberg University Tuesday night.

Game One - Muskingum defeats Wilmington, 14-4 (7 innings)

The Muskies got off to a quick 10-0 lead after the first three and a half innings of play. The Quakers had runners in scoring position in the first and third innings but couldn't get a hit to bring them home.

They struck for their first runs of the day in the bottom of the fourth frame. One run came in after a Gabe McDowell single forced a poor throw from the outfield and allowed a run to score. The other two runs scored on a JP Donelan single to left field and a J.C. Calhoun sacrifice fly to make the score 10-3. Their final run of the game came on a Max Gildea sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Game Two - Muskingum defeats Wilmington, 5-4

Muskingum jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Quakers found a pair of runs in the bottom of the third frame to tie the game at 2-2. Eli Hollingsworth and Evan Kelsey both provided RBI singles in the inning.

Wilmington took a 3-2 advantage in the bottom of the sixth off an AJ Wolf single into left center field that plated Kyle Jennings. This lead held until Muskingum tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the eighth.

The bottom of the eighth brought some excitement for Quakers fans. Jennings began the inning by getting hit by a pitch before Carter Scheben doubled down the left field line and put Jennings at third base with nobody out. Jennings scored the go ahead run on a wild pitch. A big double play for the Muskies where Scheben was cut down at the plate helped hold the lead to one run.

The Quakers doomed themselves in the top of the ninth, making a pair of costly errors that allowed the inning to continue, where Muskingum eventually scored two runs to go ahead 5-4. Wilmington loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth with two outs, but a strikeout ended the game.
