Missed Opportunities Are the Quakers Downfall in Losses to Ohio Northern

(WILMINGTON, Ohio) – The Wilmington College baseball team lost both games of their doubleheader with the Ohio Northern University Polar Bears at Tewksbury-Delaney Field Sunday afternoon by identical scores of 12-1.

Wilmington had plenty of chances throughout the day, but left 21 runners on base during the doubleheader, with 12 in game one and nine in game two. They out hit the Polar Bears in game one, but were unable to take advantage of their opportunities. The Quakers play at Capital University Wednesday afternoon.

Game One – Ohio Northern defeats Wilmington, 12-1 (8 innings)

The Quakers had a runner at third base with two outs in the first inning, but couldn't hit him home. They had runners at second and third with two outs in the second and couldn't score.

Wilmington answered a two-run half inning for Ohio Northern with a run of their own in the third. Jared Lammert tripled to begin the inning and Evan Kelsey brought him home with an RBI groundout.

The Quakers had runners in scoring position in both the fourth and fifth innings. Wilmington had the bases loaded with one out in the seventh, but a pair of strikeouts got Ohio Northern out of the jam. They loaded the bases again in the eighth with no one out, but the Polar Bears got two strikeouts and a fly out to end the game.

Game One Notables

Game Two – Ohio Northern defeats Wilmington, 12-1 (7 innings)

The second game was scoreless until the third inning. In the second frame, Wilmington had a runner at third with one out, but Ohio Northern got out of it with no runs scored.

The Quakers loaded the bases with two outs in the third. Max Gildea sent a deep drive to left field, but it was caught. Wilmington had the bases loaded with no one out in the fourth, and after two outs were made, Jared Lammert walked to bring in a run for the Quakers.

Wilmington's final runners in scoring position came with two outs in the fifth, as they had runners at second and third.
