(WILMINGTON, Ohio) – The Wilmington College baseball team had 14 hits in their contest this afternoon against Wittenberg University. However, the Tigers struck for 23 runs and a 23-8 victory. The Quakers had four players with multiple hits in the game, including four from Evan Kelsey. This loss drops Wilmington to 2-12 overall this season as they open their Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) slate on Saturday afternoon against Muskingum University.

Neither team scored in the first inning, but the Tigers plated four in the top of the second and one run in the top of the third frame to snatch a 5-0 lead. Wilmington answered with a trio of runs in the bottom of the third to cut the lead to 5-3. A pair of singles and a hit by pitch loaded the bases with nobody out. Max Gildea came through with an infield single up the middle to bring in Wilmington's first run of the game. Carter Scheben had an RBI walk before AJ Wolf brought in the final run on a fielder's choice. The Tigers put the game out of reach in the fourth inning with seven runs to push their advantage to 12-3.

Wilmington tried to make some noise after trailing 15-3 heading into the bottom of the seventh frame. Gabe McDowell began the inning with a pinch-hit single before the Quakers made a pair of outs. They were seemingly unable to make an out after that. A single put runners at first and second. A Kelsey single through the right side of the infield brought in one run and Jared Lammert followed this up with a two RBI double to left field to make it a 15-6 game. The final damage came from Gildea, who roped a single through the left side of the infield for two runs batted in and a 15-8 deficit. However, all this work was for nothing as the Tigers struck for eight runs in the top of the ninth and shut the door in the bottom of the inning for the victory.
