(FRANKLIN, Ind.) – The Wilmington College baseball team lost on the road Tuesday afternoon to the Franklin College Grizzlies, 20-9. Wilmington hit three homeruns in the contest and had three players with multiple hits. The Quakers are now 1-9 overall this season and will be right back on the field tomorrow afternoon in their home opener against Hanover College.

Wilmington scored a single run in the first three innings to take a 3-0 lead heading into the bottom of the third frame. Max Gildea drove in Jared Lammert in the first inning for the first run of the game. The second inning saw a single and a sacrifice bunt get Carter Scheben to second base. JP Donelan then plated Scheben with a single to left field. The third inning saw Lammert drive a ball over the left field fence for the 3-0 advantage.

The Grizzlies answered with five runs in the bottom of the third to take a 5-3 lead. This lead increased to 6-3 as the game went into the top of the seventh inning. The Quakers used a Gabe McDowell double and a J.C. Calhoun sacrifice fly to cut the score to 6-4 before Franklin scored three more in the bottom of the seventh to push the lead to 9-4. A two-out Nathan Oliger single up the middle made it a 9-5 game in the eighth, but an 11 run inning for the Grizzlies put the game out of reach at 20-5.

The final inning saw Calhoun reach on an error before two outs followed and had the Quakers down to their final out. They took advantage of the error as Kyle Jennings had a solid at bat that ended with a two-run homerun over the left center field wall. AJ Wolf had an infield single to follow as the second baseman made a nice sliding play but couldn't make the out. Dominic Depa had a long at bat before getting an inside pitch and destroying it over the right field fence for the Quakers final runs of the day.
