WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College women's basketball team begins its postseason by hosting Capital University in the No. 8-No. 9 game of the 2022 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Tournament. The first-round game, from Fred Raizk Arena, is slated for 6 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Capital. The Fightin' Quakers finished their regular season 7-17 overall and 3-13 in conference games after a defeat at nationally-ranked John Carroll University on Saturday. The Comets enter the game with a 5-19 overall record and a 2-14 OAC mark after a defeat at nationally-ranked Baldwin Wallace University on Saturday.

The Coaches: Wilmington is under the direction of second-year Head Coach Janel Blankespoor, who is in her fourth season with the program having been interim coach during the 2020-21 season and the program's top assistant the two years prior. The 2007 Otterbein College alumna spent stints at Mount Union and Earlham College before coming to Wilmington. Camille McPherson, who's in her first year with Capital, is the program's interim head coach following the abrupt retirement of long-time Head Coach Dixie Jeffers.

The Players: Wilmington's backcourt duo of Zahrya Bailey and Kennedy Lewis combine to score over 19 points and nearly nine rebounds a game to lead the team in both categories. Lewis dishes out over three asists per contest while Kenzie Campbell and Haley Cook both grab four rebounds a game. Laney Murphy and Brooke Ommert comine to score over 20 points per game for the Comets while Ommert grabs 5.5 rebounds per 40 minutes.

Tale of the Tape: Points per game – Wilmington 58.3, Capital 53.6; opponents' points per game – Wilmington 64.4, Capital 66.5; field goal percentage – Wilmington 37.0, Capital 38.0; three-point percentage – Wilmington 26.7, Capital 33.6; free throw percentage – Wilmington 67.1, Capital 62.9; rebounding margin – Wilmington -3.6, Capital -5.4; assist-to-turnover ratio – Wilmington 0.69, Capital 0.60.

Recent History: Wilmington is 22-31 against Capital since becoming an NCAA Division III member in the early 1990s. The teams split the regular season series with the road side winning both matchups.
