Women's Basketball Faces Another Ranked Team in John Carroll on Saturday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College women's basketball women's basketball team returns to Hermann Court for the first time in 2022 when John Carroll University comes to town for a 2 p.m. contest on Saturday.

The Teams: Wilmington and John Carroll (JCU). The Fightin' Quakers stand at 5-8 overall and 1-4 in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play after falling at Transylvania University in a rare non-conference contest on Wednesday. The Blue Streaks are 10-2 overall and 5-1 on the season after escaping Otterbein University's Rike Center with a 52-47 win on Wednesday. 

The Coaches: Wilmington is under the direction of second-year Head Coach Janel Blankespoor, who is in her fourth season with the program having been interim coach during the 2020-21 season and the program's top assistant the two years prior. The 2007 Otterbein College alumna spent stints at Mount Union and Earlham College before coming to Wilmington. Currently, Cassie Lastivka is leading the team with Blankespoor on maternity leave. Beth Andrews, a 2015 JCU alumna, is in her second season as JCU's head coach

The Players: A trio of Quakers - Zahrya Bailey, Kennedy Lewis and Kenzie Campbell - score over 8.5 points per game with Bailey leading the bunch at 10.0 points per contest. Haley Cook joins Bailey and Lewis in grabbing over four rebounds per contest while Lewis assists on over three baskets per 40 minutes. JCU is led by a pair of First Team All-OAC seniors in Nicole Heffington and Olivia Nagy as both score over 15 points per game. Nagy averages an astounding 13.6 boards per game and over two blocks a contest.

Tale of the Tape: Points per game – Wilmington 59.5, JCU 72.5; opponents' points per game – Wilmington 64.1, JCU 61.9; field goal percentage – Wilmington 37.7, JCU 42.2; three-point percentage – Wilmington 27.9, JCU 26.0; free throw percentage – Wilmington 62.6, JCU 79.1; rebounding margin – Wilmington -0.8, JCU +7.5; assist-to-turnover ratio – Wilmington 0.68, JCU 0.78.
