Women's Basketball Starts Second Half of OAC Play at Baldwin Wallace on Saturday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College women's basketball team begins the second round of the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) double round robin schedule with nationally-ranked Baldwin Wallace University on Saturday. Tip-off from Ursprung Gymnasium is scheduled for 2 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Baldwin Wallace (BW). The Fightin' Quakers 5-10 overall and 1-6 in conference play after a narrow 61-57 defeat at the hands of Otterbein University at Fred Raizk Arena on Wednesday evening. The Yellow Jackets are 10-3 on the season and 7-1 in OAC play after losing 68-65 at John Carroll University on Wednesday. 

The Coaches: Wilmington is under the direction of second-year Head Coach Janel Blankespoor, who is in her fourth season with the program having been interim coach during the 2020-21 season and the program's top assistant the two years prior. The 2007 Otterbein College alumna spent stints at Mount Union and Earlham College before coming to Wilmington. Currently, the Quakers are coached by Cassie Lastrivka. Cheri Harrer has led BW to over 600 victories and 15 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament appearances in her 30-plus years leading the program.

The Players: Zahrya Bailey and Kennedy Lewis lead Wilmington in scoring at 10.0 and 9.1 points per game respectivley as well as combining to grab nine rebounds per 40 minutes. Kenzie Campbell, Brooke Davis and Haley Cook all score over a half-dozen points while Cook also notches four boards a contest. Lily Edwards averages a near double-double for BW with 16.4 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. Megan Hessel also scors in double figures at 10.1 points per game.
