Women's Basketball Looks for Season Sweep of Capital on Wednesday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College women's basketball team looks for a season sweep of Capital University when the Comets come to Fred Raizk Arena for a 7 p.m. contest on Tuesday evening. (Note, the game was moved up a day due to impending inclement weather)

The Teams: Wilmington and Capital. The Fightin' Quakers are 6-12 on the season and 2-8 in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) competition after handling Heidelberg University 78-52 at home on Saturday. The Comets are 3-15 overall and in search of their first conference win after a 71-41 defeat at home to John Carroll University on Saturday.

The Coaches: Wilmington is under the direction of second-year Head Coach Janel Blankespoor, who is in her fourth season with the program having been interim coach during the 2020-21 season and the program's top assistant the two years prior. The 2007 Otterbein College alumna spent stints at Mount Union and Earlham College before coming to Wilmington. Camille McPherson, who's in her first year with Capital, is the program's interim head coach following the abrupt retirement of long-time Head Coach Dixie Jeffers.

The Players: Wilmington's backcourt duo of Zahrya Bailey and Kennedy Lewis combine to score over 19 points and nearly nine rebounds a game to lead the team in both categories. Lewis dishes out over three asists per contest while Kenzie Campbell and Haley Cook both grab four rebounds a game. Laney Murphy and Brooke Ommert comine to score over 20 points per game for the Comets while Ommert grabs nearly five rebounds per 40 minutes.

Tale of the Tape: Points per game – Wilmington 57.6, Capital 54.9; opponents' points per game – Wilmington 63.4, Capital 67.4; field goal percentage – Wilmington 37.7, Capital 39.0; three-point percentage – Wilmington 27.5, Capital 20.6; free throw percentage – Wilmington 63.4, Capital 62.8; rebounding margin – Wilmington -2.8, Capital -6.2; assist-to-turnover ratio – Wilmington 0.67, Capital 0.60.
