WILMINGTON, Ohio – Alma College ended the game on a 19-2 run to defeat the Wilmington College women's basketball team 68-49 in the final game of the 2021 Fred Raizk Memorial Classic on Saturday afternoon.

DePauw University defeated Calvin University 58-55 in the first game on Saturday. Mya Shannon (DePauw), Gabby Timmer (Calvin), Taylor Sas (Alma) and Kyria Walker (Wilmington) were named to the All-Classic Team.

The Scots took an 11-6 lead just over three minutes into the game, but the Fightin' Quakers put together their best stretch of offense over the rest of the first quarter. Two Emma Wright free throws midway through the quarter gave the hosts a 14-13 lead, and WC kept the pressure up, ending the quarter on an 11-2 run capped by a basket from Haley Cook with seven seconds left to build a 25-15 advantage after 10 minutes.

The second quarter was a much more defensive battle as Alma scored nine points and Wilmington eight. Leading 33-24 at halftime, the Quakers' offense was held in check for most of the second half. The Scots took the lead midway through the third quarter, but a steal and coast-to-coast and-one from senior Kennedy Lewis pulled the hosts within a point (42-41) as the fourth quarter began. Unfortunately for the hosts, Alma shot 62.5 percent from the field in the fourth quarter to pull away for the win.

Alma finished the game 26-of-61 (42.6 percent) from the field to go along with a 44-30 rebounding advantage that included 14 offensive boards. Wilmington countered shooting 35.7 percent (20-of-56) from the field, but just 3-of-13 (23.1 percent) from distance. Both teams committed 14 turnovers.

Individually, Sas led all scorers with 28 points, 15 of which came in the final quarter. Kendal Griffioen had eight points, 11 rebounds, three blocks and two assists. A quartet of Quakers - Haley Cook, Lewis, Walker and Kelis Jones - scored at least seven points. Cook led the way with six rebounds, two assists and two blocks.

Wilmington (1-2) will look to bounce back with an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) opener against the University of Mount Union next Saturday.
