Women's Basketball Heads to Heidelberg on Saturday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College women's basketball team continues Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play on Saturday with a trip up Interstate 75 to Tiffin and Heidelberg University. Tip-off from Seiberling Gymnasium is slated for 2 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Heidelberg. The Fightin' Quakers are 4-4 overall and 1-2 in conference play after a narrow 55-49 defeat at the hands of Ohio Northern University at Fred Raizk Arena on Wednesday evening. The Student Princes are 1-7 overall and looking for their first conference win after a 77-44 loss at the University of Mount Union last weekend.

The Coaches: Wilmington is under the direction of second-year Head Coach Janel Blankespoor, who is in her fourth season with the program having been interim coach during the 2020-21 season and the program's top assistant the two years prior. The 2007 Otterbein College alumna spent stints at Mount Union and Earlham College before coming to Wilmington. Rachel Ferri is in her second season as Heidelberg's head coach. The Catholic University alumna spent the previous three seasons as an assistant at Christopher Newport University.

The Players: A trio of Quakers - Zahrya Bailey, Kennedy Lewis and Kenzie Campbell - score over 8.5 points per game including Bailey's team-best 10.7 points per contest. Lewis leads the team in rebounding at 5.9 boards and 2.6 assists per 40 minutes. Kyria Walker joins Lewis in grabbing over four rebounds per game while Bailey and Brooke Davis steal two passes a game. Bailey Walker and Lily Sweeney both score nearly 10 points a game for the Student Princes with Walter leading the bunch at 8.9 rebounds per game.

Tale of the Tape: Points per game – Wilmington 66.4, Heidelberg 53.1; opponents' points per game – Wilmington 65.7, Heidelberg 65.9; field goal percentage – Wilmington 41.0, Heidelberg 30.5.; three-point percentage – Wilmington 33.8, Heidelberg 19.7; free throw percentage – Wilmington 62.7, Heidelberg 67.4; rebounding margin – Wilmington -0.9, Heidelberg -2.5; assist-to-turnover ratio – Wilmington 0.80, Heidelberg 0.40.
