BEXLEY, Ohio - The Wilmington College men's soccer team lost a heart-breaker at Capital University 5-4 with the winning goal scored in the 89th minute in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) competition. Wilmington trailed three times before the final goal was scored but recovered all three times to keep the match going.

The loss brings the Fightin' Quakers to 10-6-2, 3-4-1 OAC while the Crusaders are now 8-4-4, 5-2-1 OAC.

Capital was the first team on the scoreboard in the 35th minute, Sam Spirk scored the goal with an assist from Shane Niemeier. Piyo Debesay equaled the score for the Quakers in the 53rd minute with help from a Zach Burgmeier assist. Capital took the lead once again in the 57th minute when Mitchell Hughes scored with the assist going to Greg Knox on a free kick. Zach Burgmeier returned the favor though, by scoring in the 57th minute from a penalty kick. The Crusaders scored a pair of goals in the 62nd minute to take the largest lead of the contest. First Hughes scored unassisted and then Spirk followed it up 49 seconds later. Wilmington then scored its own pair of goals in the 86th and 87th minutes, both coming by way of Ian Molfenter with both assists to Nati Wallis. Hughes scored the final goal of the game near the end of the 89th minute on a penalty kick to give the Crusaders the victory. 

Bradyn Riffle made seven saves in his first start for the Quakers, Pedro Garcia took credit for the win by Capital with eight saves.

The Crusaders took a slim lead in shots 22-19, Molfenter led the Quakers in shots with six, three of which were on goal. 

Wilmington will return to Williams Stadium on Saturday to host John Carroll University for senior night and the final regular season game of the season, which the Quakers will need to win to make the OAC Tournament.
